Ref. 5520 ?Air-King, GoldShell? Rolex, ?Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Precision?, Ref. 5520/1024. Case No. 7473941. Made in 1983. Fine, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, gold-capped stainless steel gentleman?s wristwatch with a gold-plated Rolex Oyster bracelet.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, polished bezel. D. Satine gilt with applied gold baton indexes, luminous dots, outer minute/ seconds divisions. Luminous gold "bâton? hands. M. Cal. 1520, rhodium plated, "oeilde- perdrix" decoration, 26 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock-absorber, self-compensating flat balance-spring, hack mechanism. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 34 mm. Thickness: 12 mm.

Reference 5520, the ?Air-King, GoldShell?, appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1974 until 1986. The present lot bears two reference numbers, 5520 on the body of the watch, which refers to the specific characteristics of this watch, and Ref 1024 in the case back, which refers to the series of references to which it belongs. The case bodies and backs were interchangeable at the factory. This watch is illustrated in ?Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches?, by Osvaldo Patrizzi, 2001 Edition, p 363.
