Notes

Reference 6062 was produced from 1949 to 1953 in 350 examples in 18K yellow gold, 50 examples in 18K pink gold and very few in stainless steel. Though production ceased in 1953, the watch in its yellow gold form remained in the Rolex catalogue until 1960. This watch is one of only two examples known of this reference with black dial and diamond-set indexes. This example with the original gold bracelet was sold by Antiquorum in 1997. This watch is illustrated in ?Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches?, by Osvaldo Patrizzi, 2001 Edition, p. 283. Ref. 6062 This reference was produced with the ?Super Oyster? winding crown. The ?Super-Oyster? winding crown was an attempt by Rolex to create a waterproof winding crown that did not need to be screwed down. The system itself worked, however, in time, the rubber seal perished and this crown type was phased out after only a few years of production. Most of the time, when a reference 6062 watch was returned to Rolex for servicing the ?Super Oyster? crown was changed for the familiar screwed-down type of winding crown.
