Ref. 6542, Stainless Steel ?GMT-Master? Rolex, ?Oyster Perpetual, GMT-Master, Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified?, Ref. 6542. Case No. 355816. Made in 1957. Fine and rare, two-time zone, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with date, patinated blue and red 24-hour bezel and hand and a stainless steel Rolex buckle.

Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, patinated blue and red graduated bi-directional revolving bezel for the second time-zone in 24 hours, crystal with "cyclops" lens. D. Black with luminous round, triangular and baton indexes, outer minute track, aperture for the date. Luminous "skeleton" hands. M. Cal. 1036GMT, rhodium-plated, 25 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and five positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 39 mm. Thickness 13 mm.

Reference 6542 was the first of the GMT-Master references and was produced from 1954 to 1959. The movement of this watch is an improved caliber 1030, though the movement is stamped 1030, which refers to the basic unimproved caliber The actual caliber is 1036 as per the Rolex ?Concordances? from 1986.
