Notes

In 1979, Rolex made a few experimental dials for References 6263 and 6265 in three different colors, one of which was red. The red dial was produced in two versions: - The first has white subsidiary dials and chronograph seconds scale (see lot 308, sold by Antiquorum on June 14, 2003; and lot 571, sold by Antiquorum on October 11, 2003). - The second has black subsidiary dials and chronograph seconds scale (see lot 309, sold by Antiquorum on June 14, 2003; and lot 243, sold by Antiquorum on October 24, 2004). The present watch is the third one with a red dial and black registers to appear at auction. A similar watch is illustrated in ?Rolex, Collecting Modern and Vintage Wristwatches, vol. II, by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Guido Mondani Editore, 2006, p. 354.
