Very fine and extremely rare, astronomic, tonneau-shaped, self-winding, water-resistant, 18K yellow gold gentleman?s wristwatch with Super Oyster Crown, triple date, moon phases and ?Star-Dial?.

Matte silver with applied luminous yellow gold pyramidal, star, and dart indexes, subsidiary seconds, outer graduation for the days of the month in blue Arabic numerals, apertures for the days of the week, the months and the moon phases. Tritium coated yellow gold ?dauphine? hands. M. Cal. 655, ?Chronometer? rhodium-plated, 18 jewels, straight line lever escapement, Super-balance timed in six positions, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Produced from 1949 to 1953, with 350 examples in yellow gold, 50 examples in pink gold and very few in stainless steel. This Ref. features a great variety of indexes; with the rarest being the diamond indexes and then the star indexes. Very few examples have black dials, and only two are known with black dial and diamond indexes. Watches with black dials always had the moon featured on a black enamel sky. Ref. 6062 was produced in 18K yellow and pink gold as well as stainless steel; Ref. 8171 was produced in 14K and 18K pink and yellow gold, as well as stainless steel. Rolex produced only three references with full calendar: Ref. 6062 (the present lot, with Oyster case); Ref. 8171; and the Gold Precision Chronograph Moonphase Model, Ref. 81806, only produced as a prototype, according to Rolex correspondance dated Aug. 22, 1986.
