Ref. 6538, ?James Bond? Rolex, "Oyster Perpetual, 100 m / 330 ft, Submariner?, Ref. 6538. Made in 1958. Very fine and rare, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel diver's wristwatch with a stainless steel Rolex Oyster expansion bracelet.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, screw-down case back and large crown, black graduated bidirectional bezel for the decompression times, concave lugs. D. Black with luminous round, triangular and baton indexes, outer minute track. Luminous skeleton hands. M. Cal. 1030, rhodium-plated, 25 jewels, straightline lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, shock absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 38 mm. Thickness 14 mm.

The current lot was purchased by the present owner in 1970. It was bought in a store in Mexico for about $ 1000. At that point, unknown to him the dial had already been replaced by an original 100 meter dial that would have been mounted on either a 5508 or 6536 Submariner reference.
