Notes

Manufactured from 1950 until 1953, the Ref.6062 remains one of only two references Rolex have manufactured with triple calendar and moon-phase complication. Launched as the water-resistant "Oyster" version to its counterpart, the non-Oyster Ref. 8171, the 6062 also differed as both the steel and gold versions used Officially Certified Chonometer movements. Generally only the gold ref. 8171 references were fitted with the superior movement with steel examples, using ?Precision? quality. The ref. 6062 is considered by many collectors as Rolex's "flagship" reference due to its attractive, masculine dimensions and functional complications. This particular watch is made even further desirable by the use of steel indexes and hands as opposed to the more common gilt option. Examples of steel Rolex 6062 watches in such good original condition are exceedingly difficult to find. The present lot represents a rare opportunity for collectors to purchase one of the finest known examples to appear at auction. For an almost identical example, numbered 942670, see page 138 in the book "100 Superlative Rolex Watches" by John Goldberger.
