Notes

The term 'spider dial' used by collectors. In 1985 Rolex introduced sapphire crystals on their sports watches and gloss dials with white gold collects for the luminous. We now see how the black paint on certain gloss dials has over the years cracked to give an attractive and unusual ?spider-web? effect. Most of the dials affected were replaced by Rolex during service as the condition was considered a defect, similar to aged 'tropical' dials.
