Rolex has always been of great help and support to encourage future generations of watchmakers just like they did when they open the new watchmaking center in Pennsylvania in 2001, entirely supported by the brand and completely non-profit. According to our research, Rolex back in the 1950's donated a very small series of steel Day-dates both in references 6611 and 1803 as tools to practice their skills on and therefore did not bear any serial numbers and continued this tradition. This is the first time, a reference 17000 made for the watchmaking school has appeared at auction. For a similar piece, please see Antiquorum Geneva, November 10th, 2013, lot 573
