Rolex Chronograph Ref. 6238. Production of this reference started in the 1960's. Fine tonneau-shaped, water-resistant, stain-less steel gentleman's wristwatch with round button chrono-graph, registers and tachometer. Accompanied by a stainless steel Oyster bracelet.

D. satiné silver with applied steel tritium-coated in-dexes, auxiliary "guilloché" dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers, outer tachometer graduations. "Bâton" tritium-coated steel hands. M. 13''' rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring. Dial, case, and movement signed. Diam. 36 mm. Approx. overall length 175 mm.

Ref. 6238 This reference, called by collectors the "Pre-Daytona", was produced in stainless steel and in 14 and 18K gold. It was first published in 1964 in the Rolex catalogue for the Italian Market and remained in it until 1967. It was produced in about 3600 examples from 1962 to 1967. Similar watches are published in "Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches", by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Guido Mondani Editore Genova, 2001, pp. 434 to 438, and 487.
