LOT 400

ROLEX, PROJECT ELF, PROTOTYPE OF A NEW ESCAPEMENT A fine and extremely rare prototype escapement caliber 7230, with Rolex development brochure dated 1998. In excellent overall condition. Project ELF (echappement, lame, flambage) was invented by Nicolas Dehon who invented the constant escapement. The original prototypes were made for Rolex with perhaps 20 pieces produced. The blade was initially made of Nivarox which didn't work; only then were silicon blades used, and its development was finished and finally employed by Girard Perregaux in the constant escapement wristwatch, such as the one offered in this sale. This is an extremely rare item never before seen or offered for sale.
