Notes

Ref. 6036 Produced in stainless steel, 170 examples in yellow gold and 144 examples in pink gold, from 1951 to 1953. A similar watch is published in "Orologi da Polso Rolex " , p. 245. Rolex Oyster Chronograph, so-called "Jean-Claude Killy " Just like the Rolex Oyster Chronograph Daytona wristwatch with exotic dial was so-called "Paul Newman" in the 1980's, (see lots 106 and 107 in this sale), today another Rolex Oyster Chronograph wristwatch, Ref. 6036, can he given its own collector 's name. The Rolex wristwatch Ref. 6036, Oyster chronograph with triple date, is the favourite watch of the 1968 Olympic Ski Champion, Jean- Claude Killy. In recent years, Rolex has often photographed this gentleman sportsman wearing this watch. Furthermore, Jean-Claude Killy and this Rolex watch illustrate the preface of the 4th edition of "Collezionare Orologi da Polso Rolex" by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Guido Mondani Editore, Genova, 1997. Consequently, sport, champion, precision are all connotations combined in the Rolex Oyster Chronograph wristwatch, Ref. 6036, now so-called `Jean-Claude Killy".
