Notes

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is one of the most famous and sought after watches on the market. Launched in 1963, its 50th anniversary in 2013 was highly expected by all the watch collectors. To celebrate this birthday, the manufacture introduced a new reference 116506 entirely in platinum, powered by a 4130 caliber, with a chestnut brown Cerachrom bezel and an ice-blue dial with the historic red Daytona signature on the dial.

This reference was only the third Rolex watch to be fitted with a Cerachrom bezel. Rolex took years to develop this new material. Patented in 2005, Cerachrom is the contraction of the French word céramique and the ancient Greek suffix chrom. This component is virtually scratchproof, highly corrosion resistant, and its color is unaffected by ultraviolet rays.

The exceptional provenance of this watch, former property of Mr. Philippe Schaeffer, director of Rolex France from 2008 to 2019 adds to the prestige of the watch. Note his initials are engraved on the caseback as well as a delicate illustration of the Little Prince (le Petit Prince), Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's famous character. Published in 1943, the book has been translated into nearly 35 languages, making it one of the most widely translated books in the world, second only to the Bible. This poetic engraving adds to the watch's unique look.
