Notes

Produced during the transitional R-series of the late 1980s, the Ref. 16523 marks an important milestone in the Daytona’s evolution, one of the earliest Zenith-powered automatic chronographs from Rolex. Among these early examples, the coveted “Floating Dial” configuration stands out as a defining collector’s feature: the word “Cosmograph” printed on a separate line, subtly isolated beneath “Daytona,” lending the dial a distinctive visual balance unique to this short-lived period.

The present watch pairs this rare dial variant with the timeless steel-and-gold case and bracelet, creating an elegant contrast between sportiness and luxury. The black dial with sunken gilt-rimmed registers and bright luminous accents provides depth, clarity, and unmistakable 1980s charm.

A key reference at the dawn of the modern Daytona era, this R-series “Floating Dial” 16523 represents rarity, history, and transitional significance, an essential piece for connoisseurs of the Zenith-era Daytona lineage.
