The “Sea-Dweller” is one of the most purpose- fully design watches that Rolex has ever made, and possible the most important diving watch of the second half of the 20th century.

During the 1960s, the needs of professional divers working at great depths led to the development of the first “ultra water-resistant” tool-watches designed to conduct safe diving operations at depths of over 300 metres.

Today it’s a watch built to withstand a diving depth of 1 220 metres (4 000 feet), and up to 3 900 metres for the “Sea-Dweller Deepsea” model. The current “Sea-Dweller” watches are available in stainless steel or stainless steel and gold. The “Deepsea” model is fitted with the brand’s patented “Ringlock” system, designed to provide a higher degree of pressure resistance. The “Sea-Dweller” is equipped with a gas escape valve, especially designed for watches, made by the Genevan Manufacture to allow helium trapped in the watch to be released at a given pressure during decompression, while preserving its water-resistance.
