The first Rolex Submariners were produced by the manufacturer in 1953, but were not presented in shops until 1954 after being displayed at the Basel Fair. It is considered among collectors as the most emblematic model of diver's wristwatch, the world’s first dive watch capable of being water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). Over the year, this model has undergone many improvements and changes. Launched in 1980's, the ref. 16618 remained in production until 2010. In solid 18K gold, with the caliber 3135, it replaced the ref. 16808 and featured several colors of dial, the blue one being the most sought after.
