The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date was introduced at the Basel Fair in 1956. This is the first model to indicate both the date and the day of the week. Nicknamed “watch of presidents », it has proved popular ever since. Introduced in 1959, the iconic ref. 18XX is produced with many variants until 1966. This family of references has become the classic canon that is associated with the Rolex Day-Date. The reference 1804 appeared in 1961, together with the reference 1803. The model has the distinctive feature of having a bezel setted with diamonds. For a short period in the 1970s, it was available with colored dials that had the appearance of enamel. Known among collectors as Stella dials, they are considered rare collectors' items. The current "oxblood" or "burgundy" lacquered dial of this watch immediately catches the eye. The rarity of the piece is further enhanced by the sparkling diamonds on the bezel and dial.
