The “Day-Date” was launched in 1956. It is one of Rolex most coveted “classic” models – in opposition to the sports models. Known as the wristwatch worn by presidents, hence its nickname “President”, it was the first water-resistant and self-winding chronometer wristwatch to offer a modern calendar with an instantaneous day display, spelt out in full in a window on the dial, in addition to the date.
Exclusively crafted in precious metals, very few watch models come close to the stature, eminence and timelessness of the Rolex “Day-Date”. It was in the 1970’s that Rolex introduced dials with vibrant colours, so called “Stella” dial.
This reference 1806 is characterised by an unusual engraving, sometimes called the “Florentine”-finish, on the case and bezel which gives it a distinctive appearance. Even more unusual is the fact that it is accompanied by its original bracelet, which also has a similar design. All these elements combined with the beautiful green “Stella” dial with diamond indexes, give the watch a unique look.
