Notes

Produced in the early 1930s, the Reference 2916 belongs to the formative period of Rolex chronograph design, when the maison explored daring case geometries and technical solutions for professional timing instruments. Its distinctive stepped case with hooded lugs, a dramatic and highly desirable Art Deco construction, sets it apart as one of the most striking early Rolex chronographs.
The present example further distinguishes itself by its extraordinary color-change dial, whose surface has developed a rich, naturally aged patina over time. The transformation of the dial tone adds depth, character, and unmistakable individuality, enhancing the vintage charm of its finely printed scales and bold Arabic numerals.

Powered by a beautifully finished manual-winding movement and preserved in remarkable condition for a watch of its era, the Ref. 2916 stands as a rare and evocative testament to Rolex’s early chronograph heritage, combining sculptural casework, technical purity, and the poetry of time-worn beauty.
