Notes

Introduced in the mid-1960s, the Submariner reference 5513 with the early meter-first depth rating has long been admired for its distinctive dial configuration, in which meters precede feet, a detail that would disappear toward the end of the decade. The present example, dating from 1967, preserves this sought-after signature with crisp, well-defined printing and the unmistakable proportions of the early Submariner dials so appreciated by collectors.

The luminous material, originally zinc-sulfide-based, has matured into an attractive and even patina, lending the watch a warm vintage presence that reflects the gentle passage of time. The hands were relumed in tritium at a later stage, executed in a tone that remains visually harmonious with the dial and respects the watch’s overall aesthetic balance. The bezel insert, in good condition, introduces a subtle contrast that complements the dial’s warmly aged character.

This Submariner 5513 stands as an eloquent illustration of Rolex’s evolving design language during the 1960s, a decade marked by refinement, transition and the emergence of enduring stylistic codes. As an honest and characterful example of the coveted meter-first configuration, it embodies the essence of a classic tool watch from this formative era and remains a compelling choice for collectors seeking authenticity, balance and period charm.
