Notes

The reference 5514, produced exclusively for COMEX in the 1970s and early 1980s, stands as one of the most legendary professional tool watches ever made by Rolex. Built to meet the demanding requirements of deep-sea saturation divers, it incorporated the helium escape valve system, later adopted in the Sea-Dweller line. Each piece was issued directly to COMEX divers and individually numbered on the caseback.

The present example, dating from approximately 1977, belongs to the desirable “Big Numbers” series, recognizable by the large, deeply engraved COMEX identification number on the caseback. The matte black dial, bearing the COMEX logo above the depth rating, remains clean and well-preserved, with evenly aged luminous hour markers and hands.

The case retains excellent proportions, showing strong bevels and sharp edges, typical of lightly worn professional-issued examples. Inside, the watch houses the robust and reliable Rolex calibre 1520 automatic movement.

This piece is accompanied by its Rolex UK Service paperwork and international service guarantee, dated February 13, 2009, confirming a full overhaul by Rolex’s London Service Centre, a valuable element of provenance ensuring mechanical integrity and authenticity. Also comes with a warranty certifacte form Jacques Bianchi from 1997.

A historically significant and highly collectible Rolex Submariner reference 5514 COMEX “Big Numbers”, combining professional provenance, exceptional condition, and official Rolex service documentation, a cornerstone model in the history of both Rolex and professional diving instrumentation.
