Notes

The Rolex 6034 is an icon in Rolex chronograph for a few reasons. The first one is that its reference number starts with a 6XXX, which denotes the first steps into the more sporty versions of chronographs that would end with the reference 6263/6265, the second is that it is only the second chronograph featuring a screw-down waterproof caseback not only increasing its usability but also adding thickness/ ruggedness to the case.
The current example is a beautiful example featuring a black gilt dial that has turned tropical. According to scholars only about 100 to 150 pieces were made in yellow and pink gold combined making this black-dialed version even rarer. Interestingly the watch is only 13 case numbers apart from the world-record pink gold version sold by Antiquorum in June 2020 (lot 379, sold for CHF 600'000). A once in a lifetime chance to acquire one of the most attractive version of a 6034 ever to appear at auction.
