The present watch is a remarkable early example of the Rolex Turn-O-Graph reference 6202, dating from 1953, and represents one of the brand’s first ventures into the world of rotating-bezel tool watches, a precursor to both the Submariner and the GMT-Master.
Housed in a stainless steel Oyster case with screw-down crown and caseback, stamped IV/53, this piece features the bidirectional black graduated bezel with the distinctive red triangle at 12 o’clock, one of the earliest and most iconic design elements in Rolex’s professional line. The bezel retains its period character and gilt-tone minute divisions, showing an attractive vintage patina.
The silver “honeycomb” dial (also known as “nid d’abeille”) is in outstanding condition, displaying the elegant gilt chapter ring, applied gold indexes and triangular hour markers, and the “SWISS” signature at 6 o’clock, confirming its originality. The combination of textures and gilt accents gives the dial a refined, three-dimensional depth rarely encountered on early Rolex sport models.
Powered by the automatic calibre A260, the Turn-O-Graph ref. 6202 was one of the first Rolex watches to incorporate a rotating bezel for timing purposes, a feature that would soon define the Submariner line introduced the following year.
This example is fitted with its original riveted Oyster bracelet, completing its authentic vintage configuration.
A superb and historically significant example of the Rolex Turn-O-Graph reference 6202 “Red Triangle”, combining rarity, elegance, and pioneering design. With its silver honeycomb dial, early 1953 caseback, and original Oyster bracelet, this watch perfectly captures the transitional moment when Rolex began shaping the identity of its future tool-watch icons
