Since 1959, Rolex has been deeply involved in the automobile world, becoming the first sponsor of motor races, including the 24 Hours of Daytona. Long-lasting bonds since today the race is commonly known as the Rolex 24 at Daytona. After much research into optimising its chronographs, it was in 1963 that Rolex launched the production of its emblematic Cosmograph Daytona, in homage to the famous race on the eponymous beach in Florida.
The Rolex reference 6241, features with a Valjoux 722-1 movement, a black acrylic bezel, pump push-buttons, and a small 6mm winding crown, produced between 1966 and 1969, estimated production of only around 2000 pieces at that time, only a very small number were featured with the «Paul Newman» dial. The presented Rolex reference 6241 Daytona is preserved in good condition, featuring a strong case and beautiful “Paul Newman” dial. This one has also the original papers from the retailer Watches of Switzerland in London.
