Notes

The reference 6265, introduced in the early 1970s, represents the pinnacle of the manually wound Daytona era. Alongside its sibling reference 6263, it embodies the final evolution of the hand-wound Oyster Cosmograph before the advent of the automatic Zenith-powered Daytona. The robust screw-down pushers and solid steel tachymeter bezel perfectly express the technical refinement of this generation.

The present example features the highly sought-after “Big Red” black dial, named for the bold red “DAYTONA” inscription above the 6 o’clock register, one of the most iconic and collectible configurations among all vintage Daytonas. The deep black dial contrasts beautifully with the silver sunburst sub-dials, offering superb visual balance and legibility.

It is fitted with a correct steel bezel, distinguished by its slightly thicker and more compact font and the “UNITS PER HOUR” inscription shifted slightly to the right, a hallmark of mid-1970s production. This example retains its sharp case proportions, original pushers, and matching Oyster bracelet, presenting a remarkably honest and attractive overall condition.

Accompanied by its original Rolex box and guarantee papers, this watch combines aesthetic excellence, mechanical integrity, and full provenance, making it a true collector’s piece of exceptional quality.

A superb and historically significant Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6265 “Big Red”, fitted with the desirable Mark II bezel, uniting rarity, condition, and completeness, a cornerstone model in the history of the Daytona.
