A fine and very rare stainless steel automatic diver’s wristwatch, featuring a black gilt service dial with luminous hour markers and hands, central seconds, and a revolving bezel with red triangle at 12 o’clock, backcase engraved inside 2 59
The present watch is an exceptional example of the legendary Rolex Submariner reference 6538, also known as the “James Bond” Submariner, made famous by its appearance on the wrist of Sean Connery in the early 007 films. The large “Big Crown” without crown guards, paired with the red-triangle bezel insert, define one of the most emblematic and collectible configurations in the history of the Submariner.
This particular example was fully restored and serviced by Rolex patrimoine and is distinguished by its stunning black gilt service dial, displaying a rich glossy surface and beautifully aged luminous material, perfectly complementing the period bezel. The case retains its strong proportions and crisp edges, showing minimal signs of wear.
Most importantly, the watch underwent a complete service at Rolex Geneva in 2013, at a cost exceeding CHF 12,000, ensuring exceptional mechanical condition and authenticity. A truly outstanding example of the iconic “Big Crown” Submariner 6538, combining historical significance, aesthetic beauty, and fully documented Rolex service provenance, a centerpiece for any serious vintage Rolex collection.
