Notes

Instantly recognisable for its colorful bezel, the history of the Rolex GMT starts in the 50s when, in North America there was an increasing number of transatlantic flights.
During that time, the Pan-American airlines was looking for an extremely reliable tool watch that would allow its pilots to keep track of two different time zones in a clear and easy way.
As the reference 6542 was considered a “tool watch” the majority were cased in stainless steel, with very few examples of the first generation models cased in gold.
One of the most notable features of the present lot is the dark red/brown-colored Bakelite bezel.
The date disc has also developed a cream color which perfectly matches with the patina on lumes and hands.
The charm and beauty of the present Rolex is timeless as well as its rarity, especially in these conditions.
