The reference 8171 has been for years one of the most sought-after models by collectors. It was produced from 1949 through 1952 in yellow and pink gold as well as stainless steel. This watch was very avant-garde for its time because of its diameter (38 mm.), making it a very modern piece today; an extremely rare collectors’ item. The present lot is distinguished by its beautiful dial and well-preserved case, the engraved serial number and Rolex logo on the case back is still visible and clear. The original two-tone dial shows no signs of restoration featuring a beautiful blue outer track and moonphase. It is very rare to find 8171 in such exceptionally good condition.
