Notes

Rolex, “Day-Date” Prototype

The Rolex “Oyster Perpetual” “Day-Date” was first created under the reference 6511. Only six stainless steel examples were made under this reference in the mid 1950’s.

According to research carried out by specialists of the Swiss Manufacture, Rolex donated a very small series of steel “Day-Dates”, references 6611 and 1803, to the Geneva School of Horology in the late 1950s and 1960s to enable students to practise their work; these watches therefore bore no serial number.

This watch is either from one of these “school” pieces or a prototype watch made for one reason or another within the manufacture.
