Silver, open-face, key-winding, round-shaped, “Directoire” pocket watch, with royalist balance-cock.

Case-back polished. Engraved dust-cover, hinged and partly glazed, allowing to see the balance-cock.

White enamel dial with suspended “Breguet” numerals; blued steel “Fleur-de-Lys” hands.

Movement 20’’’, full plate, gilded brass, fusee and chain, verge escapement, monometallic balance (probably pink gold) and blued steel flat hairspring, engraved silver balance-cock in the shape of a Royal eagle.

This type of watch, intended for a royalist clientele, was produced during the revolutionary period, both in France and in Switzerland. In those troubled times, when one was not allowed to show one’s anti-republican political opinions, it’s therefore normal that a simple watch could contain hidden royalist emblems.
