Notes

Property of an Important Collector.

In the early 1960s, the Heuer brand was primarily known as a manufacturer of stopwatches. The Autavia was the first watch founder Jack Heuer created in 1962. He took the name from a Heuer cockpit instrument introduced in 1933, which had been installed in airplanes and automobile dashboards. Because of its dual purpose, it was given the name Autavia, a combination of “AUTomobile” and “AVIAtion”.

Autavia, widely known as ‘The Racer’s Watch’, was offered in over 90 varieties into the mid-1980s. Heuer produced nine versions of Reference 2446.

This lot is a transitional mode which used Valjoux 72. Its case has straight non-bevelled lugs, with no chamfer between thetop and side surfaces, as well a s a w ide bezel of the first execution case.
