Montreux Jazz Festival

The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place for a fortnight every summer in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs (1936-2013), the Montreux Jazz Festival has over the years become a not-to-be-missed event, generating legendary stories and performances.

In 1995, Claude Nobs entrusted the creation of the poster for the 28th edition of the festival to his friend David Bowie (1947-2016), who had lived in Blonay, near Montreux, between 1976 and 1982, when he was trying to escape the American media circus and his own addictions. This is a musician’s first foray into territory previously reserved for image specialists.
