Notes

The "remontoir par le pendant, se dégageant de lui-même, système Louis Audemars" The exact name of this invention is found in the Description des montres exposées à Londres par Louis Audemars du Brassus, Suisse, 1862 (Description of the watches exhibited in London by Louis Audemars du Brassus, Switzerland, 1862) (Lausanne, 1862), under No. 1: "... remontoir par le pendant, se dégageant de lui-même, système Louis Audemars" (winding by the pendant, disengaging itself, system Louis Audemars). This printed catalog for the London Universal Exhibition is reproduced by Paul Audemars in his book (2014, pp. 100-103). Hartmut Zanke reproduces in his book a brass watch "calibre" (thin round plate), with the engraved design (front/back) of this type of movement, here with anchor escapement (2003, p.70, ill. T21). It also gives a complete technical explanation of this invention (2003, pp. 128-130). The quality of execution of this timepiece and its serial number, as well as similar models, allow us to attribute it to the Louis Audemars House from Le Brassus to the Vallée de Joux. It should be noted, thanks to the Historical Archives of Audemars, that the cost price and the selling price of these timepieces are very substantial. It should be noted, however, that the production sheets of the watch No. 10 739 are unfortunately no longer present in the Historical Archives of the Louis Audemars House, now kept by Mr. Paul Audemars in England. The watch No. 10 740, which appears in the Historical Archives of the Louis Audemars House, is dated 1876. Our watch, which bears the previous number, mentions on the reverse side of the dial, on the counter-enamel, the date of the July 19, 1876. Champion de Nansouty, Charles Dijon (Côte-d'Or), February 20, 1815 - Dax (Landes), March 14, 1895 French soldier who, after his retirement from Brigadier-General, devoted himself to the creation of the observatory of the Pic du Midi of Bigorre (Hautes-Pyrénées), located at 2 876 meters above sea level. This man experienced a busy life climbing one by one all the way up the military career. His whole character (impulsive and stubborn but loyal) led him to refuse to surrender to the Prussians in 1870 at the end of the battle of Sedan (during the night of the September 1st and 2nd), where he saved the lives of thousands of French soldiers. Setbacks with the new government led him to take early retirement after forty years of service, he then devoted his time to the meteorological studies and to the creation of an observatory. Disgusted with men, he prefers to go to live at an altitude of two thousand meters above them, on a deserted rock. ROLEX REF 1601, "DATEJUST", STAINLESS STEEL
