A very fine and rare, 18k gold, manual wind empire case, engine-turned with reeled band and polished bezels, push-piece at 6 to disclosing the erotic scene. Half skeletonised movement with quarter repeating pocket watch with automaton Jacks of Diana and Apollo and a small concealed erotic automaton scene of a couple on a bed, driven by the repeating train.

Jaquemarts have a rich tradition, dating back to at least the late 17th century when they were mentioned in the first edition of the French National Academy's dictionary in 1694. The dictionary defines Jaquemarts as "figures made of solid or cast iron representing a man in arms, which is usually put up on top of a (clock) tower to strike the hours with a hammer onto the bell of the clock."
These intricate figures became a notable feature on clock towers, adding both functional and decorative elements to timekeeping. The mechanized Jaquemarts would strike the hours audibly, providing a visual and auditory spectacle for those in the vicinity.
The tradition of incorporating miniature versions of Jaquemarts into watches continued into the 19th century and remains popular today.
