Notes

UTI, Paris and Besançon

Founded by Georges Meyer in 1906, UTI is short for Utinam, a French horological manufacture, based in Paris and Besançon area (Doubs), that was known for its magnificent pocket watches and railway stop-watches in the early 20th century.

The post-WW II days marked UTI’s most prolific period, from luxurious ladies wristwatches, clocks, to bedside and travel alarm clocks, many of the firm’s work are still greatly treasured in today’s vintage market. UTI continued to collaborate with world renown “haute joaillerie” brands, such as Van Cleef & Arpels, until the company was absorbed by the Matra group in 1984.
