Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, No 404159, case No. 255922, made in 1939. Very fine 18K gold hunting case moon phase astronomical keyless minute repeating watch with a perpetual calendar bearing the coat of arms of Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, the celebrated Swiss naturalist author.

Four body massive "demi-bassine" polished case, the cover with a coat of arms. Gold cuvette. Mat silver dial with Breguet numerals, subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months with the leap year cycle, the dates, and the seconds with an inner moon phase aperture. Gold "spade" hands. Very fine rhodiumed plated 19''' movement, 32 jewels, straight line lever escapement. cut bimetallic balance. Breguet balance spring with a micrometric index. Repeating on gongs by means of a slide on the band. In very good condition. Diam. 56 mm.

Ramuz - Old nobel Swiss family from the canton of Fribourg, was already known in the city of Saint-Aubin as soon as 1430. Ramuz Charles Ferdinand (1878-1947) celebrated French writing naturalist author was born in Lausanne. He wrote many novels about the nature poetry and the way of lite in the Swiss countryside.
