Fine and extremely rare, 18K yellow gold, open-face, keyless-winding, round-shaped, pocket watch with subsidiary seconds at 6, a second chronograph and dragging 30-minute recorder. Case-back engraved in taille-douce (fine cut) and black enamelled with the cypher “S M” of Captain Stefano Morino. Cuvette engraved with the mention “Non si volta chi a stella è Tiso / Ricordo della Leonardo da Vinci / Maggio 1914”. The Extract from the Archives, dated November 10, 1994, mentioned that this watch was made in 1912 and sold in 1913 to the agent of Vacheron Constantin for Italy.

Notes

Sold with a letter from Vacheron & Constantin and a photocopy of a letter from the Historical department of the Italian Navy. According to this letter, Captain Stefano Morino took the commandment of the Vessel Leonardo da Vinci on May 1914. This watch which bears his monogram was certainly presented to him at this opportunity.
The Leonardo da Vinci was a vessel of 23 088 his. It was bought by the Italian Navy (Regia Marina) on October 10, 1911, and in use from May 17, 1914. It was damaged on August 2, 1916 and was restored in 1919. Its motto was: “Non si volta chi a stella è Tiso”.
