Notes

The different dials of the "Mercator" watches represent the American Continent, and/or Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia and were inspired by a map drawn in 1587 by Gerardus Mercator, famous cartographer and humanist. Produced by Belgian enamelers Lucie and Jean Genbrugge (who also collaborated in the design of the mechanism to control the hour and minute hands), the dial of this lot was carefully chased by hand and then enamelled. The "Mercator" was launched in 1994 to celebrate the 400th annversary of the death of Mercator, the father of modern cartography.
