(Abraham Vacheron), Genève, No. 2031. Made in 1808. Signed Vacheron & Constantin, when returned around 1825, for renovation. Very fine and rare, slim 18K yellow gold quarter repeating pocket watch. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Silver, black champlevé enamel radial Romanchapter ring, central field with floral engraving. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Cal. 15???, gilt brass, bar caliberwith going barrel, four jewels, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, repeatingon gongs via plunge in the pendant.Dial, cuvette and movement signed.Diam. 39 mm.

Notes

This watch was made around 1808 when the firm?s name was ?Abraham Vacheron?, and was returned to the company for renovation around 1825. At that time, it was updated both technically and from a decorative point of view, and was re-engraved with the new company name - Vacheron & Constantin - yet it retained its original numbers. This was a common occurrence at the time. In a similar fashion, Breguet often bought back his watches, renovated them, and often resold then under different numbers. The fact that the present watch retained its original numbers suggests that it was not resold, but in fact returned to its original owner, who requested the changes.
