METIERS D'ART LES MASQUES SERIES (2007, 2008, 2009) Starting in 2007, each year for the next three years, Vacheron Constantin has combined its watchmaking savoir-faire with its artistic whimsy, by creating a set of 4 timepieces each year (limited edition of 25 sets per year) featuring 4 different ancient masks from various cultures of the world (Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania). The masks were carefully hand- selected from the collection housed at the Barbier- Mueller Museum in Geneva. The brand's close collaboration with Mr. Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller allowed perfection of each miniature recreation of the masks, imitating every meticulous detail from the original. The goal of the design was to showcase the masks. Therefore, instead of the regular features used on a watch to tell time (i.e. hands), the four separate gears each indicating the hours, minutes, dates, and days of the week were quietly tucked underneath the translucent-colored sapphire crystals which make the masks the only focus on the pieces without any distraction.
