Folding naturalist’s pocket microscope with turned bone handle and its magnifying lens also folding. The instrument is mounted on a shaft with a spike to fix the subject to be observed: plants, insects, etc.

With its embossed leather case marked “W: Rushby Cherry Tres = Hill”, on the reverse, two ammonites.

Manufacturer of scientific instruments active in Cherry Tree Hill, a village not far from Sheffield in Yorkshire, England.

This type of microscope is first illustrated in Essays on the Microscope by George Adams Junior (1750-1795), inventor and maker of scientific instruments for King George III (1738-1820).
