ROBERT & COURVOISIER THE DUTCH KITCHEN YELLOW GOLD Robert & Courvoisier, No. 799/769, the automaton movement attributed to Pierre Simon Gounouilhou, Geneva. Made circa 1815. Extremely fine and very rare, large, 18K gold and painted on enamel watch with an automaton scene with five actions.

Double-body, "Directoire", polished with glazed back, concealed hinge. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute track with painted gold divisions, regulation sector below 12. Fancy pierced gold hands. Magnificent varicolored gold automaton scene applied over a finely painted ground depicting a kitchen: a lady using a pestle and mortar sitting by a fire over which meat is being roasted, a boy peers through a window above her, to the right, a dog running in a rotating cage turns the spit, below a dog plays with a cat by a basket of vegetables. 50 mm. (22 1/4'''), gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance with flat balance spring, regulation via the dial. Automaton driven by an independent movement with going barrel and five-wheel train, eccentrically mounted and adjustable pinion as the governor, driving the automata by means of cams and levers, activated by depressing the pendant. Numbered on the pendant.

C. Double-body, "Directoire", polished with glazed back. D. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute track and Arabic quarterhour numerals. Blued steel "ogival" hands. Magnificent varicolored gold automaton scene applied over a finely painted ground depicting a kitchen: a lady at the spinning-wheel sitting by a fire over which two chickens are being roasted, a small child opposite her, above, a dog running in a rotating cage turns the spit, at the right water runs from a fountain, below a dog plays with a cat by a basket of vegetables. M. 50 mm. (22 1/4???), gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance with flat balance spring, regulation lever in the dial plate. Automaton driven by an independent movement with going barrel and five-wheel train, eccentrically mounted and adjustable pinion as the governor, driving the automata by means of cams and levers. Numbered on the pendant. Diam. 58 mm.

The Dutch Kitchen. Painting on enamel attributed to Jean-Louis Richter, movement attributed to Pierre Simon Gounouilhou, Geneva, circa 1810. Exceptional and very rare 18K gold and enamel, pearl-set double-face watch with an automaton scene with eight animations.

C. Double-body, “Empire”, back very finely painted on enamel with a harbor scene in the manner of Joseph Vernet; three sailing ships, men fishing from a boat with a net, another one fishing with a fishing rod from the shore, a castle at the shore, mountains in the background, champlevé enamel border, split pearl-set bezel. D. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute track. Blued steel “ogival” hands. Automaton: Magnificent varicolored gold automaton scene applied over a painted enamel ground depicting an animated lady by a kitchen stove maintaining an animated fire upon which a chicken is being roasted, a small child sitting opposite, above, a barking dog running in a rotating cage turns the spit, at the right water is running from a fountain, below a dog is playing with a cat. M. 51 mm, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance with flat balance spring, automaton driven by an independent movement from a fxed barrel and five-wheel train, eccentrically mounted and adjustable pinion as the governor, driving the automata by means of cams and levers.Punched twice with the serial number on the movement.Diam. 60 mm.
