Rectangular lantern form, flanked by part reeded, part fluted columns of square section, moulded base onlion's paw feet, the side panels with hinged central doors and engraved with masks and scroling foliage on ahatched ground, the dial plate en suite and the back panel centered with the initials A.G. and I.H.S. incorporatedwith a cross. Moulded top surmounted with a pierced and engraved dome over the bell and flanked by fourrampant lions, turned vase finial, fixed loop and wall spikes, brass-clad lead weights. D. Silver chapter ring withengraved Roman numerals and half-hour arrow divisions. Single gilt brass hand. M. Three-bar in line with addi-tionalbars at right angles for mounting the gilt count-wheel and alarm-setting disc. Part gilt trains with serratedsteel drums for the ropes. Three-wheel going train with verge escapement, single-arm brass balance with sprunglever to lift the verge and disengage the pallets for setting to time. Simple C scroll cock. Striking train with fourblade solid fly, the count-wheel with internal hour division slots and driven off the great wheel by a transversemounted wheel with turret pinion. Gilt and silvered bronze, in the form of a Gothic cathedral and town with gateway, towers, turrets and crock-etedfinials, a cord operated automaton railway signal on one finial, raised upon a rock-work and flower hillsidebase, at each side a railway tunnel from which two lines of trains and carriages travel across. Rose wood veneeredbase with stringing and floral inlay to the front and containing the musical movement. D. Gilt, set in the facadeof the cathedral and in the form of a rose window, painted Roman numerals on raised cartouches. Blued steel"cathedrale" hands. M. Rectangular plates, two spring barrels, anchor escapement, silk suspension, outside count-wheelstriking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the hammer also activating a lever which pulls a cord connectedto a bell housed in a cupola on top of the case - thus appearing to strike when the clock movement strikes.Musical movement. 14cm pinned brass cylinder playing a choice of two tunes, one-piece steel comb,independent movement for the automata with rectangular brass plates, large spring barrel, three wheels and afly, a pulley and cord system operating the train automata, another rod acting against a star-wheel and connectedto a cord operating the signal on the roof of the cathedral. C. Rectangular with rounded corners, divided into two compartments, the front empty, the back housing theautomaton and the watch, two hinged covers. The top cover with a very finely enamelled panel of Joseph with hisparents and step-brothers within a half pearl frame.
