The IWC Deep One, introduced in 1999, was the first wristwatch equipped with a mechanical depth gauge that showed depth up to 45 meters. The mechanical depth system is a Bourdon tube which acts as a pressure-sensing element. When water enters the coil tube, it causes the tube to rigidify. The pressure is then indicated by a depth gauge hand in white. A yellow hand indicates the greatest depth during a dive. This system was independent from the watch movement, a JLC 891. A pump was furnished with the watch to test the pressure gauge. The Deep one was made for a very short period due to its high cost of fabrication and relatively small market. Only a few IWC Deep One were sold and the watch was rapidly discontinued. Today, the watch has achieved cult status among collectors.

Property of the original British owner
Since 2003, Hermès has designed and developed its own mechanical watch calibres, enriching the collection with a fine array of horological complications and fine craftsmanship. Arceau Le Temps Suspendu conceals time and erases it from the dial while continuing to register its ceaseless march. This new horological complication developed exclusively for Hermès is a world’s first. The mechanics behind the illusion are created by an additional module, enabling automatic and spontaneous alternation between suspended time and standard time. The 360 degree retrograde hour and minute mechanisms make time disappear without interrupting the relentless running of the movement.
