Square brass plate, the corners engraved with cherub spandrels representing the winds, with folding plumb bob, inset magnetic compass adjustable for the magnetic deviation, silvered chapter-ring with folding latitude scale, the folding pin-hole gnomon attached to the crossbar, pierced with a beetle pattern hour pointer, with geared minute hand. Upper leaf: Exterior with a wind-rose and inclined pin gnomon sun-dial. Interior with inset pewter lunar and calendar volvelle. and scale for degrees of latitude for the inclined dial. Lower leaf (cracked): Interior with stamped scale for the horizontal string gnomon dial, centre with inset magnet compass with paper rose, scale of latitudes for various French towns and adjustable pewter chapter-ring (later needle), folding brass arm to support the upper leaf. Exterior. with inset pewter perpetual calendar disk revolving to adjust chapter-ring. Compartment in the side to store pin gnomon. All surfaces with floral spandrel borders. In reasonable condition. Upper leaf: Exterior with engraved scales for months, date, hours and zodiac, within chased foliage border. Interior with volvelle for lunar hours, phase, aspectarium, the four cardinal points and a wayfinder. Lower leaf: Interior with folding engraved plomb bob terminating the string gnomon of the silvered horizontal dial, with inset magnetic compass. Exterior engraved with an arabesque foliage pattern. Signed with initiais and dated in the upper leaf. In good condition. Dims. 60 x 42 mm.

Shaped base plate with two spirit levels and three adjustable feet, the border engraved with the names and latitudes of six North American towns, silvered folding latitude scale and chapter-ring with springloaded pin gnomon.
