In the aperture, three gold automaton figures pass across a painted ivory background depicting a garden with two animated fountains. The three automata represent harvest-gatherers, one a woman holding fruitwith an animated arm, another two children on a see-saw, the third a donkey carrying the fruits of the harvest and nodding its head. C. Three-body, the back in Imperial blue translucent champlevé enamel over an engine-turned ground representing three goats browsing amid a landscape with pagoda, the bezel in matching blue enamel. They represent lust, and suggest that other, more risqué scenes, may follow. Inside the back cover there is a finely painted enamel scene of a couple engaged in discussion, the inside dome with two couples enjoying themselves on a riverbank, swinging out the movement discloses another painting of a cople who have progressed farther, gilded ring protecting the movement. D. Small, centrally mounted, white enamel, Roman hour chapter, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic numerals, surrounded by a seven-arm garnet-set star with small paste-set rosettes mounted between the arms. When the mechanism is activated, the entire plate revolves, while the rosettes rotate at different speeds with a dazzling effect. Blued-steel hands. M. 33 mm o, hinged, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillrs, going barrel and cylinder escapement, gold three-arm balance, flat balance spring, later cock, all converted from verge escapement. The automaton driven by a fixed barrel and five-wheel train finished by a governing pinion in eccentric adjustable bushing to regulate the speed of the spin.Signed on the movement.Diam. 46 mm. C. Outer: two-body, almost entirely set with pearls, rubies, emeralds and diamonds, centre with imperial blue champlevé enamel depicting a pheasant beside a pagoda within a ruby-set frame. To the Chinese, the pheasant was a symbol of beauy and good fortune, and was one of the twelve ornaments on the imperial robes. The entire scene is hinged and when opened by a secret catch, reveals another scene showing a gentleman about to inject new life into the lady after their exhausting walk shown on thedial. Inner: two-body, 'bassine', back polished with small rosette in the center, band pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage, gilt dust cap. D. Enamel, small Roman chapter ring set in the centre on white ground with outer minute ring, the borders painted with a continuous scene, depicting a couple taking a walk in the countryside. Blued-steel hands.
