Dealer Window Display. Made in the 1930s. Wooden display with moving parts to demonstrate the function of the Rolex ?Rotor Self-Winding Mechanism.?

Custom-made display, the elephant?s head nodding up and down, moving the hinged letter ?R? which bears a Rolex self-winding rotor in the upper opening, thus simulating the motion of a person?s wrist. Simultaneously an Oyster case, mounted in the ?E,? is rotating slightly. All moving parts are driven by an electrical pendulum with a mercury switch (110 V) mounted in the back. Dim. 66 x 42 cm. Depth 14 cm. In good overall working condition

C. Two-body, ?bassine,? polished, gilt metal screwed-down cuvette. D. Matte silver with applied yellow gold baton indexes, outer minute and 1/5th second divisions with Arabic five minute/ second markers, outermost blue tachometer scale, subsidiary dials for the seconds at 6 and the 30-minute register at 12. Yellow gold baton hands. M. 17???, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 48 mm. Thickness 12 mm.
