"NS" (Nicolaus Siebenhaer) Lubeck, circa 1620. Magnificent and important octogonal gilt bronze hour striking table clock with alarm previously in the Soltikoff collection this clock is described in the Dubois: "Collection archéologique du Prince Soltikoff", supplied with the clock.

The cast octogonal case finely chazed on each face with the figures of: Jupiter, Apollon, Diane, Saturne, Mars, Venus, Mercure and Pallas. Silver chapter ring with "champlevé" enamelled twice twelve roman numerals and 24 Arabic numerals in the German way, inner revolving alarum setting disc with twice 12 Arabic numerals on the border and a fine " champlevé" translucent enamelled decoration of scrolls, foliage and birds. Gilt dial plate with engraved palm leaves and touch pieces. Fine single iron hand with a gilt tip in form of a hand. Very fine gilt brass shaped full plate movement, the Master mark on the back plate, with turned baluster pillars, the going iron train of wheels, with a fusee now set with a chain, five leaf pinions, iron balance wheel foliot set with a balance spring toward the end of the XVllth century, original "s" shaped iron cock. Striking train with a fixed gilt brass barrel and an iron locking plate visible on the back plate. Alarum train with an iron going barrel. Striking on a later bell. In very good condition. Very fine gilt wood glazed cabinet with "rocaille" decoration, the coat of arms of the Bishop Prince at the top. Silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, calendar aperture and five small subsidiary dials for: fast/slow adjustment, silence and music, selection of tune " grande and petite sonnerie" and silence/strike selection. Gilt iron pierced hands. Gilt bronze dial plate with fine "rocaille" chased decoration. Three train movement with turned pillars, going barrels, anchor escapement, pendulum with spring suspension. Striking and repeating the quarters before the hours on two bells. Three music tunes on 10 bells with 10 hammers, can be composed on the 19 cm. pointed cylinder driven by the central barrel via a right angle gearing. In good condition. Dim. 97 x 43 x 28 cm.

Chased bezel set with alternate white and red stones, a fine enamelled portrait of a lady painted on the back and framed by a red translucent enamel over engine-turning, further white and red stones and a white dot enamelled decoration, the border of the back is pierced and engraved with a scroll and palm leaf decoration. Small off set white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute and second rings. Gilt brass arrow and poker hands. Dial plate painted with a mountain landscape with an automaton water fall and several highland figures passing a bridge in an aperture below the dial. The small gilt brass pocket watch movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three armed steel balance and English cock is set within the large gilt brass full plate movement, the back plate engraved overall with foliage, with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, fly regulator and a pointed cylinder with twelve hammers striking on six bells. Paul and Virginie, the celebrated characters of Bernardin de Saint Pierre, carried on a palanquin by two black slaves wearing a gilt loincloth, they are followed by a barking dog. The gilt bronze base with a bas relief depicting an episode of Paul and Virginie adventures, a palmtree on each side. The movement is set in the palanquin, with a gilt bronze drapery below the dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals ( slightly chipped and restored). Gilt brass "Directoire" hands. Round double train movement with going barrels and anchor escapement, short pendulum with a silk suspension. Striking on a bell with a count wheel on the back plate. In very good condition.
