The Virgin and St. Roch. Fr. Alibert a Paris, No. 40692, Geneva, 1840s, enamel attributed to Louis Dufaux père, made for the Italian market. Exceptional and very rare 18K gold and painted on enamel Neo-Gothic watch stand with a gold and enamel lady's pendant watch. Accompanied by a later fitted leather box.

Stand: In the form of a Neo-Gothic triptych, very richly decorated with repoussé, scrolling and stylized foliage formed with champlevé enamel, centered by a hinged and glazed compartment for a small pendant watch, enamel cartouches with the Virgin at the left and St. Roch at the right, side panels painted on enamel with two Palladian palaces, a winged cherub's mask painted on enamel, the base with three painted on enamel panels. Left, a river scene, right a palace, center, a bouquet of flowers, matte top of the base decorated with repoussé scrolling covered with champlevé, engine-turned gold back panel, with rosette and fleur-de-lis. C. Four-body, "bassine", back very finely chased and champlevé enameled with foliage and flowers on black enamel background, florally chased bezels, twisted-rope band, gold hinged cuvette. D. In the form of a Neo-Gothic triptych, very richly decorated with repoussé, champlevé and cloisonné enamel, embellished with scrolling and stylized foliage over a mother-of-pearl ground, centered by a scent compartment surmounted by three painted on enamel winged cherub's masks, side panels painted on enamel with scenes of Lake Como, the Borromeo Islands and the Vallée du Simplon, rounded corners with painted on enamel flower bouquets, winged cherub's mask painted on enamel at the base. On an oval ebony base, sailing on a stormy ocean with its waves finely carved from a solid piece of jasper set in a gold frame at the base, the ship in gold, white and green enamel with cabin windows set with rubies, the chimney and the boats in white enamel, silvered deck, American flag at the stern, gold, silver, and enamel life-savers fixed on each side of the jasper with the words "VARUNA, N.Y.Y.C." In original fitted leather box, with old manuscript attesting to its provenance from the Chinese Emperor's Summer Palace.

C. Each side made up of three painted on enamel panels, the center ones depicting two putti, one holding a love torch, against a dark green background, the other side depicting a mother holding a baby, gold and azure enamel frames, the whole against black enamel, the top forming the cover decorated with courting doves, musical instruments and Cupid's attributes on the reverse, against black enamel, the lower spring-loaded panel, with courting doves and a flower basket opening to reveal the watch, edges with yellow enamel with translucent imperial blue enamel leaves and repeated engraved pattern. The hinged top reveals the nécessaire compartment with gold scent vial with gold stopper, gold ear-spoon, pencil holder and watch key. Octagonal base, side panels very finely painted on enamel with lakeside scenes, watch in the front surrounded by green enamel plaque painted with garlands of flowers and red ribbons, back with bouquet of flowers, chased and engraved gold background, canted corners with azure enamel plaques applied to a chased and foliate engraved gold background, spring-loaded front panel reveals winding and setting arbors, striking/silence lever, singing/silence lever, activation lever at the left edge. The cage, following the shape of the base, supported on four sets of two Corinthian columns in rose gold with yellow gold capitals and floral bases, mesh wire screen at the base, the cage itself formed of rose gold lances. Three-body, rectangular with rounded corners, top and base with oval medallions painted on enamel with flowers against light yellow translucent enamel over sunburst engine-turning, azure borders with gold foliage, set with graduated split pearls at the top, sides decorated with cartouches painted with flowers against azure enamel, corners with green champlevé enamel and gold and black enamel foliage. The hinged lid reveals a compartment, the hinged base opening to reveal the bird scene. The bird compartment has a double gold bottom for better sound. The front panel has a gold bolt for activation, the back opening at the bird plate for switching from singing to music. D. Set on a painted on enamel Alpine scene, with a garden in the foreground, a house and mountains in the background, applied multicolored gold flower vase, and foliage. The feathered bird is fixed to the plate over the gold foliage as if it were sitting on one of the branches, it flaps its wing as its tail and beak move. At the top right corner is an applied gold butterfly concealing the sound opening. M. The cams rotate four times per song and lift one step every rotation, allowing a long duration of singing via L-shaped lever lifted by a cam set on a separate arbor with 4 notches entered by a pin on a wheel set under the bird cams - the final Rochat arrangement. Cam-controlled raising of the bird medallion and the bird, with five-wheel train finished by a pinion in eccentric bushing to regulate the speed of the opening and closing. The Siberian Mouse. Attributable to the workshop of Piguet et Capt, circa 1805, probably retailed by Maillardet. Extremely fine and rare 18K gold and enamel, pearl- and ruby-set automaton mouse.

C. In the form of a mouse with ruby eyes, red enamel mouth and nose, the body entirely inlaid with oval split pearls, the fur very skillfully simulated with white champlevé enamel, chased gold feet, fine gold wire eyebrows and whiskers, gold ears and gold wire mesh tail. M. Brass, shaped, with fixed barrel, the 5-wheel train terminating with a pinion pivoted in eccentric adjustable bushing for regulating the mouse's speed. The mainspring barrel is milled with four cams; one moves two levers up and down giving a very realistic motion to the animal's feet, the mouse moves via two small knurled steel wheels mounted on a pinion driven by the second wheel, two other cams at one point lift two levers protruding from the stomach which lifts the mouse and stops her, the last cam controls the head movement.Dim. Length 57 mm (130 with the tail), 25 mm thick at mid-body.

M. Brass, shaped, with fixed barrel, the 5-wheel train terminating with a pinion pivoted in eccentric adjustable bushing for regulating the mouse's speed.
